In Search of Dinosaurs on the Prairie

About the Book

Events for this story take place on a cattle ranch and the nearby plains in southern North Dakota. The main characters are Grams, Gramps, Pablo (their grandson) and Mallory (their granddaughter). Pablo and Mallory are visiting their grandparents’ ranch when Pablo overhears Gramps talking to Grams about some nearby ‘‘prairie dinosaurs”. The next day, he and cousin Mallory decide to take a journey several miles from the ranch in search of the dinosaurs. Both Pablo and Mallory are fearless and in their excitement, neglect to tell anyone where they are going. Sugar, their farm dog, and Puff, one of Mallory’s favorite cats, journey with them in search of the dinosaurs. As the story unfolds they have a great adventure exploring nearby prairie and hills, finally reaching their destination. . . the dinosaurs! In the meantime, Gramps and Grams are desperately searching for them, knowing there is an impending storm ahead. Grams and Gramps find them just in time and Pablo and Mallory’s adventure ends well with a bit of a historic lesson!

About the Author

Jeanne Schumacher, author of “In Search of Dinosaurs on the Prairie” writes and illustrates stories about prairie life in south central North Dakota. She has insight about rural life as she and her husband have lived on a farm for most of their married life. She and her husband Gary have raised three children and are blessed with seven wonderful grandchildren. “In Search of Dinosaurs on the Prairie” is the second in a series of books by this author. Characters in each of her books are her grandchildren. Writing and illustrating children’s books has been a goal of hers for several years. As the author and illustrator of this story, she has developed a fictitious story in an authentic setting located a few miles northeast of the farm.
